You have now completed three library tutorials that provide strategies on how to search for scholarly or credible trade journal articles through OneSearch. You have also reviewed tutorials on APA format.

You have also considered your topic for your white paper and have taken steps toward completing its final draft.

In this discussion topic, please provide the following information to your classmates:

1. What is your topic for your white paper?

2. What article(s) have you found through OneSearch on your topic? This is an area of the paper that we did not explore in week 6. Sometimes when a writer finds sources, the writer adjusts his or her topic. Please list the source in APA format. In addition, please write one sentence describing what the source contributes to your white paper.

3. Have any sections of your paper been modified in light of some of the sources you have found? For example, are you modifying your “previous approaches” section, or your “new findings” section, in light of some of the articles you have found? If not, no problem. But please write a couple of sentences in response to this question.

Please read the sample white paper, “Dungeons & Dragons: Teambuilding Since 1974.” This white paper is linked to in Content in week 7.

Then answer the following questions:

1. Examine the executive summary. Is the main message of the executive summary clear to you? In addition, would bulleting any information here help the readability of the executive summary? If so, what information could be bulleted? If not, why not?

2. Examine the graphics. Do they serve a purpose? If so, give an example of a graphic in the paper and the purpose it serves. If not, provide an idea for a graphic for this paper.

3. Examine the research in the paper. It has only four sources, while the assignment asks for at least five sources. In what sections of the paper would more research benefit the paper? Please point out at least two sections.

4. Describe your overall response to this white paper. Does it identify a problem and provide reasonable “new approaches” to the problem? Does the writer persuade an audience to adopt this strategy to teach team-building skills? Please write a short paragraph in answering this question.

We are in our eighth and final week of the class. In this discussion topic, we will discuss what technical writing is. Please answer the following questions. Feel free to interact with your classmates on their answers as well.

Please read over pages 129-131 of the article by Kitty Locker, “Will Professional Communication Be the Death of Business Communication?” The article is in the eReserves section of your class. To access the article, please take the following steps:

· in the list of items that appears, locate this article and download it.

1. How does Locker distinguish technical writing from business writing? Write a couple of sentences or so in your response to this question.

2. You have written a set of instructions on how to navigate a website. You have also written a recipe. You have written an essay that compares and contrasts two websites. You also wrote a technical description for your friend, Alice (this was one of the discussion topics in class). Finally, you are finishing up a white paper.

Would you agree with Locker? Would you say that technical writing is expository, and that business writing is persuasive? Did any of the writing assignments in this class involve some persuasion? Please draw upon your experience in writing the various writing assignments and tasks.
