The first example that comes to mind when I think of an unethical leader is one of my prior bosses, well call her Karen. I worked under Karen for about a year before I decided I couldnt take one more day dealing with her shenanigans. We worked in a kitchen and she was over the whole kitchen staff, which just happens to be mostly family members. Karens niece, nephew, sister, aunt, and cousin worked in the kitchen. As you can imagine, she played favorites like it was going out of style. I had an issue with her niece, well call her Susan, because she wasnt doing her job the way its supposed to be done. I went to Karen about this issue multiple times and she promised time and time again that she would fix the issue. The issue was never addressed, of course. There was another girl in the kitchen who wasnt part of the family, well call her Cheryl. She was about to graduate high school and two months before graduation, she put in time off to celebrate. Fast forward to the week of graduation, the schedule finally comes out and Cheryl is scheduled to work the day of her graduation. But Susan, Karens niece, who is also graduating gets off all four days she requested off. She put in her request to be off two weeks in advance. This is obviously unethical because she is favoriting her niece, who doesnt do her job anyways. Things should have been done way differently. For starters, the company should have never allowed the whole family to work together. The issue with Susan should have been resolved the first time it was brought to Karens attention. Requesting time off should be based on a first come, first serve basis. Needless to say, Im glad to be out of that kitchen!
