The Art of the 1950’s era can culturally be summed up as battle between Communism and Capitalism. From one persective, Soviet Union and other communist regimes of the East tended to show a lack of understanding for art practices of Modernism, interpreting non-representative forms of art as incomprehensible for the working class people. Conversly the government of United States, through funding and organization, directly supported rise of abstract art to show progressive and liberating character of capitalist society. Thus creating a wealth of Expressionism in the culture at large of the West. The World War had an overwelmng affect of the social order and cultural norms during and following the War.

The work Caravaggio’s Naturalism was heavily influneced by the culture created by the Catholic Counter-Reformation art, purposly that ordinary people could understand and be inspired. Baroque literally means irregulaly shaped. In its most typical manifestations, Baroque painting is characterized by great drama, rich, deep color, and intense light and dark shadows. The cultral of that time was heavily dramatic and intense. It is hard to say whether or not the culture was influneced by the Renissance or that the Renissance art influnced the cultual norms.
