According to George and Leasure, transformational leadership skills help achieve better patient outcomes, acceptance of innovative ideas, and staff performance perceptions towards work (2016).  I utilize transformational leadership due to the fact that a leader can have a positive or negative impact on their staff, therefore a relationship between a leader and staff must be positive in order to have optimal patient outcomes (Henrick, et. al, 2016). There are four primary concepts of transformational leadership which are idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individual consideration (George, 2016). McKinney stated that a Director of Nursing in a long term care facility can eliminate state violations by utilizing the four concepts of transformational leadership (2016).
