1. Explain why it is useful to describe group work in terms of the time/place framework
It is useful to describe group work in terms of time or place frameworks since it helps both the management and stakeholders appropriately determine the group’s strengths and weaknesses. Perhaps the description of the group-based time framework is essential since the tools used to support group collaboration and its effectiveness and the technology deployed help managers make amicable decisions. Moreover, it also defines groups decision with reference to the environmental influences on the said decisions and perhaps acts as the best tool for communication, accountability, and transparency because the parameters involved described the groups efforts and effectiveness (Gutwin & Greenberg, 2020). In a nutshell, time and framework enhances a good understanding of the groups’ values and objectives
2. Describe the kinds of support that groupware can provide to decision-makers.
The kind of support that groupware can provide to decision-makers includes identifying challenges and problems, suggesting and generating solutions to challenging assess and evaluating the available alternatives to establish the best solutions for any underlying challenges or problems. Perhaps before a given solution is established, groupware is used to develop a criterion that assists in choosing and selecting the most appropriate solutions (Gutwin & Greenberg, 2020). Additionally, the groupware also plays a vital role in facilitating communication among group decision-makers’ participants to discuss various issues. This communication platform enhances clarification of ideas as well as the capacity to make an amicable decision.
3. Explain why most groupware is deployed today over the Web.
Most of the groupware is deployed on the Web since technological advancement has led to the development of Web-based systems and perhaps prove to be more efficient and open most improved e-meetings. Virtual members can easily participate in e-meetings from wherever location they happen. Secondly, web-based groupware is technically simple to install as it guarantees open network standards, minimal individual learning, and open client standards (Administration, 2018). besides that, the use of web-groupware provides a primary platform and channel for social networking, which seems to be free and lest costly, thus making it easily accessible to the web-users.
4. Explain in what ways physical meetings can be inefficient. Explain how technology can make meetings more effective.
A physical meeting can be inefficient since it demands face-to-face meetings, in which case the physical appearance determines the daily activities of a given group. It is may also be termed as ineffective since, in most cases, physical meetings tend to be biased and only allow the most prominent and eloquent group members to speak during the meeting. Perhaps there is a tendency to provide too many details and information that can easily ruin the decisions that need to be initiated. With the use of advanced means of communication, meetings can be electronically held virtually without the members behind physically required to attend such meetings.
5. Compare Simons four-phase decision-making model to the steps in using GDSS.
Simons four-phase decision-making model involves four main steps, which are;
i. Intelligence phase where problems are identified and data collected as well as problem classification.
ii. Designing phase whereby a model that represents a system is defined using collective variables.
iii. Choice phase whereby the alternatives made early are evaluated.’
iv. The implementation phase, which can be either or unsuccessfully successfully (Unitfly, 2018). For a successful one, the solutions to the problem are defined and implemented.
In GDSS.
The general steps involved in the aspect include brainstorming of the issue at hand, classifying the problem, prioritizing the main ideas within the problem, planning, assessment, documentation, and resolution (Prescott, 2017).
